On Tuesday, Volodymyr Lytvyn, Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine, conferred The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine Awards to the most talented young researchers in the field of fundamental and applied research, and theoretical and practical research. The awards were conferred for significant personal innovational contributions into the scientific development of the State, and for personal achievements in the fundamental scientific research.

At the awarding ceremony, V.Lytvyn stated: "These talented young people have already asserted themselves both in science and public life. These are the people, self-made by their intellect, heart and hands." He reminded that almost 30 thousand young researchers and scientists, 231 doctors of science and 13 thousand candidates of science had been working in Ukraine. "These are positive figures," the Head of the Parliament stated. However, he drew attention to the generation gap and a lack of succession. "Such a situation should give impetus to the staffing of the research institutions with young researchers," V.Lytvyn believes. He supposes that modern world needs essential methods, not formal innovations. He stressed that Ukraine should give budgetary priorities to science.

The Chairman of The Verkhovna Rada of Ukraine supported the idea of establishing a youth parliament. All youth associations should be represented there. "Initiation of the dialogue with young people and encouragement for this work will allow us to have the opinions concerning the parliamentary proceedings and bills under scrutiny," V.Lytvyn stated.
